Weaving
Weaving was a fun and practical art project. The first step was to choose a color of yarn that represented something important in our lives. We measured about 12 arm lengths of yarn to weave around our cups. Then, we cut slits in our cup about halfway down to create tabs that we would weave around. It is important to tie a knot around one of the tabs to identify a starting point. After that, I wove the yarn in an over-under pattern until the rest of the cup was covered in yarn. Again, it is a very important step to tie another knot in the yarn to ensure it does not come undone. The final step of this project was to complete the exit ticket which was to explain why we chose the color of yarn and what practical way we would use the finished project. Extension: To integrate with math, you could have students do a form of paper weaving with strips of paper to create a hundreds chart that they could keep and use for future math lessons. Students could choose whatever colors of p...
