Drawing

This project was created by first drawing a diagonal line from corner to opposite corner to separate the paper in half. I then traced over that line in black Sharpie to make this border distinct. The next step was to draw a sun on one side and a moon on the other. Then, I drew patterns on each side to represent day or night. The next step was to color in our patterns using at least 3 warm colors for the sun side and at least 3 cool colors for the moon side.

The hardest part of this project was coming up with an idea to draw the patterns associated with day and night. I would provide my students with some inspirational ideas/photos before they begin drawing so they do not waste a bunch of time thinking about what to draw.

Extension Activity: You could easily incorporate this into a science lesson about seasons and have students choose two seasons to represent and compare instead of day and night. You could still incorporate warm and cool colors or require students to include specific elements and principles of art.
