Footprint Introduction
Description: This footprint introduction activity is a way to represent our individual interests, and hobbies and to introduce yourselves to the class. You will begin doing this by tracing your foot on a piece of construction paper and cutting it out. You will then collect any materials you would like to use to represent yourself and piece your footprint together. Finally, you will give a short presentation to the class describing the elements of your footprint and why you chose to incorporate them.
In my example, I used multiple types of media including: photos, ribbon, newspaper clippings, printer paper, stickers, Sharpie marker, etc. The photos on my footprint represent important people in my life including my family, roommates, and best friend. The blue ribbon is a piece of my wristband from my first VIP Cody Johnson (my favorite country music artist) concert. The newspaper clippings represent a couple pieces of my high school and hometown including a Trojan head which is the Faulkton mascot and a volleyball which was my favorite sport to play in high school. I included the picture of the frog to represent my biggest fear! The golden stickers are a coffee mug and an airplane to represent my love for coffee and traveling. I also used plain printer paper to include the weight trainer and Northern logo which both represent my current life as a college student. Finally, I included a piece of a Target gift card to show where most of my money goes and where I spend a lot fo my free time!
The requirements of this project are:
1. Considerable attention to craftsmanship & neatness
2. Utilize 3 or more different types of media
3. Include your name large enough for viewing and legibly
4. A balanced use of space on your footprint
Extension Activity: For an extension of this project, I would ask my students to choose one component of their footprint to research more about for a 1-page writing assignment. For my example, I may choose to research frogs and write a 1-page paper to elaborate on something new I learned about frogs. Another example would be to research how the game of volleyball first began. This could be used as a lesson or activity in an ELA class at almost any grade level.
